About Taste of Lexington

The idea for Taste of Lexington was conceived by Charlie Alexander. Charlie observed that many cities have Taste of the Town, and while Lexington is already on the map for its annual Barbecue Festival every October, he wanted to create something unique to Lexington that would showcase all that it has to offer in the springtime.

Trinity United Methodist Church, Davidson County Cancer Services, and Arts United of Davidson County joined together with Charlie to create the 1st Annual Taste of Lexington in 2006. The event was a success, with 17 restaurants participating, and the funds going to 6 different charities.

Building on the success of the first Taste of Lexington, Charlie has expanded the scope of the events involved in the Taste of Lexington activities, hoping to showcase more of what Lexington has to offer to newcomers and visitors. (Visit the Events Page for descriptions of all of the 2007 activities!)

There have also been several changes in the administrative aspects of Taste of Lexington; Trinity UMC has turned its responsibilities over to other organizations, but many Trinity volunteers remain involved. The charities involved in planning and executing the 2008 Taste of Lexington are the charities that will be receiving funds from the profits this year. And most exciting, Taste of Lexington has applied for 501(c)3 status.

Charlie is not afraid to dream big; he has grand plans for all that Taste of Lexington can become in the future. And he does it all because he believes that Lexington is a wonderful city!
